About This Call
Up Close and Personal is an international juried exhibition inviting submissions that engage with concepts of proximity, distance, magnification, individuality, and identity. Submitted works might explore how getting close reveals unique qualities not visible from a distance, or address concepts of personality, personal space, identity, portraiture, and intimacy.
The exhibition welcomes a diverse array of media including ceramics, digital media, film, graphic art, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, video, and installation art. Artists of all ages are welcome, regardless of location or identity. The exhibition will be held May 28 through July 1, 2021, at The Trolley Barn Gallery, 489 Main St., Poughkeepsie, New York, with an opening reception on Friday, May 28, 5-7pm. Artwork will be selected by juror Anna Conlan, Neil C. Trager Director of the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at SUNY New Paltz, in collaboration with youth from The Art Effect. Selected artworks will be displayed in the Trolley Barn Gallery and in an interactive online exhibition. Artists will be notified within approximately one week after the April 5, 2021 deadline.
Entry fees are $35 for the first three images plus $5 for each additional image (up to 15 images total, including up to 3 video submissions). Discounted rates apply for Art Effect alumni, current students, members, and City of Poughkeepsie residents. Artwork should not exceed 7 feet in any direction; contact the gallery for consideration of larger works. Artists are responsible for transportation to and from the gallery. Prizes include $500 First Prize, $250 Second Prize, and $150 Honorable Mention. Exhibiting artists may specify a retail price for work available for purchase; The Art Effect retains a 20% commission for members and current students, 30% for non-members.
