About This Call
The Unusual Frida Juried Art Show is a juried competition for 2D original paintings. All submissions must be original works created from 2019 to the present. Acceptable media include oil, mixed media, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, pencil, pen, and charcoal. Prints, reproductions, and photography are not eligible. Artwork must be completely dry, framed, wired securely, and ready to hang. Artwork must not exceed 20 lbs including frame, with canvases at least 1.5 inches thick. Works on paper must be protected under glass or plexi-glass with a low profile frame. Unframed painting size must not exceed 48 inches in any direction and must be at least 24 inches in any direction. Violence and political themes are not eligible. Nude art is acceptable if in good taste; graphic erotic art and art depicting graphic sexual violence are not acceptable.
The entry fee is $35.00 (non-refundable), payable online by credit card. Each artist may submit a maximum of 2 images. The juror is Marilyn Cortes-Lovato, Director of Visual Arts at Osceola Arts in Kissimmee, with over 30 years of experience in the fine art industry and an MFA from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Awards of Excellence will be selected based on interpretation and clarity of theme, creativity and originality, and quality of artistic composition and overall design. First place: $2,000, second place: $1,000, third place: $500. Juried selections will be announced via email.
The event takes place January 13-14, 2022. Local drop-off is available Wednesday January 13 between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., with pickup after the show closes Friday January 14 between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Artists are responsible for all shipping expenses to and from the event planner's office. All shipments must be sent signature required. All works should be for sale with a 20% commission on sales; 80% of any sold piece will be mailed to the artist within one week after the exhibit closes.
