About This Call
Unseen: Photography Beyond the Visible is a juried exhibition of works by artists who have found creative expression within non-visible wavelengths. The Providence Center for Photographic Arts invites photographers from around the world working in infrared, IR filters, false color, ultraviolet, multispectral, and thermographic technology to participate. All mediums, styles, and schools of thought—including experimental and mixed techniques—are welcome. Artwork must be photography-based and 40 inches or less in height and width (including the frame). Photographers must be age 18 or older.
The exhibition runs April 20 to May 13, 2017, with an opening reception on April 20 from 5:00 to 9:00pm. The show is juried by Peter Miller and Laurie Klein. While the exhibit is limited to non-visible spectrum images, the evaluation centers on artistic vision, with technique secondary in making selections. Accepted work must be printed and framed professionally with glass or plexi, wired with D-rings, and ready to hang. Maximum dimensions including frame must not exceed 40 inches.
Entry fee is $30 for three pieces and $10 for each additional entry (up to 8 total). PCPA members pay $24 for three pieces and $10 for each additional entry. All work accepted for exhibition must be for sale; PCPA retains a 40% commission on sales. Prizes totaling $1,000 are awarded at the opening reception: Best of Show $500, 2nd place $250, 3rd place $150, and People's Choice $100. A limited edition exhibition book is planned featuring selected entries. Submissions are handled through CAFÉ (CallforEntry.org). Entry deadline is March 20, 2017 at 11:59pm MDT. Notification of acceptance is March 24, 2017. Artwork can be hand delivered April 14-15 from 1-3pm or shipped to arrive by April 14. A print service is available for distant photographers whose work is accepted, with prints displayed in professional 0.75-inch black frames behind glass at $40 per print.
