About This Call
The University of Louisiana Monroe is seeking sculptural artwork for a public art commission located between Sandel Hall and the new Hub Student Union Building on campus. The artwork will face Northeast Drive and be viewed by prospective students beginning their campus tours at Sandel Hall. The sculpture should inspire prospective students and represent the life-changing and transformative impact of higher education, embodying hope, growth, and transformation for northeast Louisiana.
The selected proposal will receive an all-inclusive budget of $110,000 to cover all costs including research, professional consultations, structural and electrical engineering reports, conservation reports, materials, fabrication, transportation, travel, insurance, installation, and documentation. The artwork must be durable, sturdy, stable, suitable for climate conditions, resistant to UV damage, and safe for public interaction. The design should consider site elements, reflect ULM's history and diversity, and represent the university's vision of transformation and growth.
Artists must submit a résumé demonstrating a minimum of five years of professional visual art experience, a statement of interest describing their interest in the project and previous public art experience, three professional references, and six images of original completed commissions with title, medium, dimensions, project budget, year completed, location, and description. Finalists will be required to attend two meetings: a site visit and a proposal presentation before the Art Selection Committee. An honorarium of $1,500 will be paid to artists selected to develop proposals. Notifications will be issued by the end of March 2022.
