About This Call
This is a public art commission for a permanent installation on the full southern 200-foot façade of the Taft Street Parking Garage at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The installation should reflect the rich history and culture of Lafayette and the University of Louisiana, with a focus on the city's musical traditions. The façade overlooks the Pride of Acadiana Marching Band's practice field and will serve as the backdrop for the installation. The work should be visually appealing and instructive about the city's musical heritage, highlight the field's use as a performance area for the marching band, and may address functional considerations such as the need for shade, seating, or light. Various media are welcome, including murals, relief sculpture, printed media, light, and kinetic elements.
Applicants must be professional artists 18 and over with a minimum of five years of professional visual art experience. Artist teams may apply and must designate one lead contact. A complete application must include an artist résumé, a statement of interest describing why you are interested in the project, previous public art experience, your connection or interest in the University, and how the art will enhance the space, three professional references with current contact information, and up to 10 images of original completed commissions (not proposals, sketches, or 3-D models) from the last 10 years. Each image must include title, medium, dimensions, project budget in US dollars, year completed, location, and description. Up to 3 videos of work examples are optional. The project budget is $47,000.
