About This Call

The Colorado Council on the Arts, Art in Public Places Program and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) seek to commission a Colorado artist or artist team for a site-specific public art project in the newly renovated Dwire Hall, opening in August 2007. The call is open to Colorado artists only.

The renovated Dwire Hall will house the College of Business faculty and staff, with BA and MBA programs, the Professional Golf Management Program, and the Center for Entrepreneurship. It will also provide space for the Department of Economics, the Graduate School of Public Affairs, and the Department of Language and Cultures. The committee seeks artwork reflecting themes of business, communication, innovation, activity, global awareness, culture, language, and technology. Several opportunities exist for either two-dimensional or three-dimensional artwork on the outdoor plaza, in the lobby area for the lecture hall, or other areas within the facility. A total of $50,000 is available for all related expenses of this public art commission, including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, documentation, and other costs.

Applicants must submit six digital images of previously completed artworks, a one to two page résumé, and a statement of interest (no more than 2,000 characters) outlining interest in the project and experience working on projects of this scope. Multimedia artists wishing to submit kinetic, sound, or other media works must also submit a DVD or VHS tape of no more than five minutes by the deadline. There is no application fee. The Art Selection Committee will review all complete submissions and select semi-finalists to interview and submit an in-depth proposal. Semi-finalists will receive a small honorarium to be applied toward the commission amount. Final selection will be made from the semi-finalists. Semi-finalists will be notified July 18, 2007, with presentations to the committee scheduled for August 29, 2007.
