About This Call

The University of Colorado Anschutz is seeking qualifications from artists and artist teams interested in creating site-specific public artwork for the new Anschutz Health Sciences Building on their Aurora, Colorado campus. The budget for this opportunity is $218,000.

The Anschutz Health Sciences Building is a seven-story, 390,914 square foot interdisciplinary facility designed by ZGF in partnership with Anderson Mason Dale. The building will serve as an entry point to the campus artwalk and will house education, research, and clinical programs. The Art Selection Committee is commissioning artwork for multiple interior locations: a second-floor southwest wall (supporting up to 5,000 lbs hanging), a two-story northwest area between the 1st and 2nd floors, and a two-story south-side space near the entrance with floor-to-ceiling windows (supporting 1,000 lbs hanging from above). The committee seeks work that addresses the science focus of the building's programs, including the interface between data and nature, and relates to collaboration and multidisciplinary approaches to medicine.

Artists must submit 6-8 images of their work. Out-of-state semi-finalist artists will receive $1,500 and in-state semi-finalists will receive $1,000 as an honorarium for design proposal creation. The contract amount is inclusive of all costs including design fees, consultation, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and contingency. Semi-finalists will be notified in January/February 2020 and invited to present final proposals in February/March 2020. All commissioned artwork will be owned by the State of Colorado via the University of Colorado Anschutz. Contact Ruth Bruno, Public Art Program Manager, at [email protected] or 303-892-3813 for more information.
