About This Call
UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA CAMPUS MURAL PROJECT
This public art commission invites artists to create a mural for Knights Plaza at CFE Arena. The wall is located to the left of the main entrance to CFE Arena, next to the Veterans Academic Resource Center on East Plaza Drive, which is part of the main procession fans walk from Memory Mall to home football games at Spectrum Stadium. The mural is meant to incite spirit for fans during all UCF Athletic events. The wall is approximately 24' x 24' (576 sq ft). The budget for this project is $15,000. The mural will be painted on a flat surface that will be installed by UCF facilities. Artists have the option to paint on site or paint the boards in a studio and bring them in for installation. Artists are responsible for providing paint and sealer (Sherwin-Williams anti-graffiti coating) and should include the cost for these items in their proposed budget. UCF will provide all hardware to install the mural and provide access to a lift. The mural must be installed and completed no later than Friday, August 25, 2017.
The theme for this project is Knights. UCF's mascot is the Knight, and the organization would like the image of a knight in armor bursting through the wall. Artists residing in the United States are eligible to apply. Submissions must demonstrate expertise and recognition in the medium. The artist and/or design team should provide evidence that they meet at least two of the following criteria: the artist has completed other public commissions on a similar scale; the artist has received awards, grants, or fellowships; the artist's works are included in public, private, corporate, or museum collections; or the artist has participated in exhibitions at major museums or galleries.
Submissions must include: (1) a brief Letter of Interest explaining how prior work or public art experience qualifies you for this project and how your submitted ideas and images relate to project requirements, including site-specific concept drawings and examples of previous mural projects; (2) a current professional resume emphasizing public art experience, public collections, and public commissions; and (3) a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 20 digital images with no identifying information. All applications must be uploaded by Friday, July 7, 2017. Submissions will be juried by an Art Selection Committee represented by University staff, faculty, and students. Contact Kevin Haran at [email protected] or 407-823-0542 with questions.
