About This Call
Uncommon Threads 2019 is a one-day art-to-wear event held at the Q Center, 1405 North 5th Avenue, St. Charles, Illinois. The event is open to all fiber and jewelry artists who reside in the United States. Artists may participate in one or more of the following categories: Runway Artist, Runway Artist and Independent Artist Booth, or Independent Artist Booth.
Runway participation is open to all one-of-a-kind wearable art in any fiber-related media. Work must be an original concept executed by the artist, and all items must be for sale. Jurors will select work based on originality and runway suitability. Accepted runway artists may exhibit 3 to 5 women's and/or men's garments or ensembles; children's garments will not be accepted. Runway artists may also apply for an Independent Artist Booth. Accepted runway artists without an independent booth may submit up to 10 additional garments and up to 30 accessory items for sale in the Fine Line Managed Booth.
Independent Artist Booth participation is available through two options: the Fine Line Managed Booth, where artists may submit up to 30 functional accessory items priced below $250 to be staffed by Fine Line volunteers, or a limited number of 10'x10' booths where artists must staff their own space with no limits on quantity or price. All applicants must submit five images representing their work completed in the last two years and provide a brief artist statement. The jury fee is $25 (non-refundable). Independent Artist Booth applicants must pay an additional $40 booth fee after acceptance. Fine Line retains a 35% commission on all pieces sold. Runway awards include the Kavanagh Award for Best of Show ($250), Jurors' Choice Award for Best Body of Work ($200), and People's Choice Award ($100). All runway garments and documentation must be received by September 25, 2019. Fine Line Managed Booth items and documentation must be received by October 2, 2019. The event takes place on October 20, 2019.
