About This Call
This exhibition invites artists to consider uncertain and changing boundaries in their work and lives, including social, personal, and artistic boundaries. Social boundaries can be thought of as objectified forms of social differences manifested in unequal access to and unequal distribution of resources and social opportunities. Personal boundaries can be emotional, physical, or digital. Artistic or creative boundaries can be stylistic, cognitive, material, and aesthetic. Each artist is encouraged to challenge themselves while having fun with the concept.
All entries must be handmade prints created by the artist using traditional printmaking and/or photographic processes and created in the last 5 years. 3D and experimental work is encouraged. Any combination of processes may be employed including silkscreen, letterpress, calligraphy, etching, woodcut, lithography, linocut, drypoint, mezzotint, monoprint, polymer plates, silver gelatin prints, photopolymer gravure, copperplate gravure, cyanotype, vandyke, gum bichromate, palladium, platinum, carbon, salt, wet plate, chemigram, lumen, argrotype, oilprint, chlorophyll, instant transfers, and lifts. Digital photographic images can be used in combination with other processes, but straight digital prints will not be accepted. AI generated images will not be accepted. Work needs to arrive at the gallery ready to hang but framing is not required; magnets, clips, and other methods can be used.
Entry fee is $35 for 5 images, with $5 for each additional image (up to 10 artworks total). A sliding scale discount of $20 for 5 images is available with coupon code disc. Deadline for submission is September 11th at midnight Mountain time. Notification via email will be sent September 15th, with work due at Light Art Space by October 1st. The exhibition runs October 10th through November 9th, 2024, with a reception and juror talk on Friday, October 11th from 5-7 pm. Juror is Juana Estrada Hernández, Assistant Professor of Printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design. Awards: First Place $300, Second Place $200, Third Place $100. Sales are encouraged; Light Art Space will retain a 50% commission on any artwork sold. All artists making handmade prints are eligible to apply.
