About This Call
Ulysses Park is located at 1205 Ulysses Street, Golden, CO 80401. The park is home to competitive softball and baseball teams. The commissioned artwork will be attached to the back of the grandstands of the main baseball field. Two completed designs are required, each 19 feet wide by 52 inches tall.
The finalized artwork should include images of baseball players in active states of play such as fielding, hitting, and catching. The feel of the artwork should serve to inspire players, especially children, to rise to their potential. The selected artist is encouraged to use lyrics from John Fogerty's song, "Centerfield" and incorporate those lyrics into the final design. All mediums will be considered, with special attention given to weather conditions, durability, maintenance, and vandalism prevention. Metal, laser cut screens, powder-coated metal, iron work or other similar processes might be appropriate. The project budget is $7,000.
The RFP is open to all Colorado based artists and artist teams 18 years or older. Experience creating public art is preferred. The panel will not discriminate against any applicant on the basis of age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, or physical challenges. The project will be awarded to the artist or artist teams that demonstrate creativity, artistic merit, technical proficiency, and relationship to the site. Long-term maintenance and public safety concerns will be major selection criteria. The finalist will be selected by a panel consisting of Golden's Public Art Commission, the private donor, and other appropriate stakeholders. Work samples should include 5-20 images, up to 2 audio files, and up to 2 video files.
