About This Call

The Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management and the Utah Division of Arts & Museums Public Art Program requests qualifications from Utah-based artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific artwork(s) for the upcoming UDOT Ogden Maintenance Facility and Materials Lab.

The Art Selection Committee is seeking to commission 2 artworks: an interior or exterior mural to be located at the Maintenance and Signals Building (budget not to exceed $50,000) and an exterior sculpture to be located near the main entrance to the UDOT Ogden Campus, south of the planned Materials Labs (budget not to exceed $101,000). The committee encourages applicants to consider the services that UDOT provides, focusing on the physical labor and hard work necessary to maintain Utah's roadways. The mural will celebrate the crucial service that UDOT road workers provide and will be seen by UDOT employees, administrators, and visitors regularly. The exterior sculpture could function as a wayfinding marker or as a gathering or recreational spot for employees and neighborhood residents. Artwork subject matter must be appropriate for public exhibition and cannot contain advertising, religious references, sexual or violent content, or convey political partisanship.

Professional artists and artist teams residing in Utah are eligible for this commission. Applicants must have a U.S. Tax ID Number (SSN, EIN, ITIN, or other). Applications must include up to 10 images and/or up to two video files of previous work, a CV or resume, and a Statement of Interest explaining interest in the project and how your work might relate to it. Indicate in your Statement of Interest whether you are interested in proposing a mural or sculptural project. Complete application packages must be received by September 12 by 11:59 p.m. MDT. Semi-finalists will be asked to present a full proposal on December 10, 2025, and will receive an honorarium to help defray proposal development costs, which will be applied toward the commission amount if awarded. Artwork completion is targeted for Fall 2026 with project substantial completion in December 2026.
