About This Call
The UCF College of Nursing is seeking an artwork for the First Floor, Two-Story North lobby of the new Dr. Phillips Nursing Pavilion, representing the "heart of the building." The artwork will be suspended from the ceiling, with all costs associated with lighting and support provided by the institution. The building, groundbreaking January 2024 and opening Fall 2025, is a 90,000-square-foot facility at the UCF Academic Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona.
The vision for the sculpture should convey how the impact of one nurse has a cascading effect, touching the lives of many—including the individual patient, the family, the community, and the art and science of nursing. Symbolism can be incorporated to convey the endless possibilities that a UCF nurse can have on the world. Media should be glass or other materials that are reflective or translucent.
Submissions must include: a brief letter of interest describing why the artwork is appropriate for the project and how submitted images relate to project requirements; a current professional resume with emphasis on public art experience; 10 to 20 digital images of artworks; and a completed Image Identification Sheet with project number, project name, artist name, address, phone number, email, and for each image: thumbnail, image number, title, date, medium, dimensions, price or commission amount, and availability for purchase. Artists must meet at least two of the following eligibility criteria: completion of other public commissions on a similar scale; receipt of awards, grants, or fellowships; inclusion of works in public, private, corporate, or museum collections; or participation in exhibitions at major museums or galleries. Budget: $80,000. National eligibility.
