About This Call
The Castle Rock Public Art Commission seeks proposals for artworks to be installed via vinyl on an outdoor restroom facility located in Downtown Castle Rock at Festival Park. Festival Park is a central gathering place in Castle Rock, CO, serving as a hub for community events, outdoor activities, and social connections. The ideal design will welcome local residents and visitors, define a sense of place and community, and provide passersby a fun and creative backdrop for photo opportunities.
Proposals may feature any medium of artwork, including digital art, that can be digitally reproduced for vinyl application according to specifications provided by the vinyl vendor. All proposals should include a visual representation of how the artwork should be presented on all four sides of the facility. The selected artist will receive a $1,000 stipend, with installation expected in early summer 2025.
Each entry must include the artist's name and place of residence, at least one image of the artwork, and the title and brief description of the work. Artists may submit up to three artworks. Selection priority will be given to local Castle Rock artists, followed by Douglas County artists. The selection committee will review submissions based on artistic excellence, technical competence, suitability for the site, fun and creativity, and potential for community engagement. Designs must not contain advertisements or sensitive content (drugs/alcohol, nudity, violence, etc.). The selected artist must be available in May to collaborate on final design with the banner producer/installer if necessary and will enter into an agreement with the Town of Castle Rock concerning terms of use, including release of ownership.
