About This Call
The Castle Rock Public Art Commission seeks two-dimensional artworks to be digitally featured on banners installed on the east side of a parking garage adjacent to the Encore building in Downtown Castle Rock at 115 Wilcox Street, Castle Rock, CO 80104. Art must be two-dimensional and able to be translated into a digital image or series of images to be printed onto five banners. The banners are expected to be on display from October/November 2022 through May 2023. A $1,000 stipend will be paid to any artist whose work is selected for the project.
Artworks submitted should consider the Public Art Commission's vision statement of "creating community vibrancy and reflecting the charm, heritage and beauty of Castle Rock." Artists must guarantee that the artwork is original and does not violate any intellectual property rights. Art can include digital art, paintings, photography, and other two-dimensional works. Each banner measures 4 feet wide by 30 feet long. Non-digital artworks selected for the project must be able to be delivered to Colorado for digital scanning and must be on thin stock (cotton rag, poster stock, etc.). Artworks should not have gold flake or layers of mixed media that could come loose during scanning. Designs must not contain advertisements for any brand, business, product or viewpoint. Content deemed sensitive will not be permitted (drugs/alcohol, nudity, violence, etc.).
Each entry must include the artist's name and place of residence, one 10MB or less image of the artwork, and the title and brief description of the work. Artists may submit more than one artwork, with each entry submitted separately by email to [email protected]. The submission deadline is midnight July 31, 2022. A selection team will review submissions based on artistic excellence, technical competence, and suitability for the site. Preference will be granted first to artists residing in Castle Rock, then Douglas County, followed by general consideration. Selected artists will need to be available in August/September 2022 to collaborate on the banners' final design and will enter into an agreement with the Town of Castle Rock concerning terms of use, including a release of ownership.
