About This Call
An open juried national exhibition sponsored by Art League Rhode Island. The exhibition explores fiber art as a meditative creative process and celebrates handwork across diverse communities and materials. All work must include fiber in content or be executed with at least one fiber process or technique. Eligible fibers include paper, shredded plastic shopping bags, bamboo, reeds, telephone wire, simple metal wire, and fruit skins. Eligible processes include sewing, knitting, knotting, crocheting, weaving, spinning, felting, and basketry. Use of technology, slow cloth, traditional or non-traditional materials, and eco-friendly materials are encouraged, but no perishable organic material is permitted.
Eligibility: Any artist 18 years or older. All 2D and 3D media eligible except video. Artwork must be original and exhibition-ready. Previously exhibited work with ALRI is not permitted. 2D work maximum size: 48" wide and 72" high including frame. 3D work: overall footprint 24" x 24" or less, weight limit 40 lbs. Submission fee: $30 for up to 3 artworks ($25 for ALRI members). Submit 1-3 images in JPEG format, 1200 pixels or greater on longest side, under 5 MB.
Juror: Anastasia Azure, Providence, Rhode Island. Awards: 1st Prize $300, 2nd Prize $200, 3rd Prize $100. Exhibition dates: March 8 - May 8, 2019 at Blackstone Valley Tourism Council Gallery and adjacent Gallery 175, 175 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860. Opening reception and awards: Thursday, March 14, 2019, 5:30-8pm EDT. Notification of acceptance: on or before February 1, 2019 via email. Drop-off: Monday, March 4 (10am-3pm EDT) and Tuesday, March 5 (noon-5pm EDT). Pick-up: Thursday, May 9 (10am-3pm EDT) and Friday, May 10 (noon-5pm EDT).
