About This Call
Tualatin Valley Creates is commissioning new works for the Musical Benches Public Art Collection to grow the Washington County, Oregon public art portfolio. Works will be strategically placed to highlight community qualities, enhance existing events, and bring foot traffic to under-utilized areas.
Open to all Oregon-based large-scale public works artists and/or designer/design teams contracting fabrication to Oregon-based fabricators. Priority given to Washington County-based artists. Each work or set/pair of works has a maximum budget of $15,000, which includes all expenses from design, fabrication, transportation, installation, and artist fees. Artists may apply for up to four installation sites.
Artwork must be kinetic, sound-making, and/or physically engaging. Designs should not exceed 7' long x 2.5' wide x 4.5' tall and must seat no less than three adults. Work must be pedestrian scale, ADA compliant, durable, vandal-resistant, low maintenance, and appropriate for all-ages audiences. All materials must be suitable for outdoor settings with pedestrian, skateboard, and bicycle traffic. Audible levels should not exceed 60 decibels with no electrified amplification permitted. Applications must include a brief letter of interest, professional resume, 3-5 images of past relevant work, and a project proposal (compiled as one PDF) including design specifications, materials description and longevity, dimensions, manner of engagement, budget, and estimated timeline. There is no application fee. Selected artists will work with Tualatin Valley Creates staff to create a detailed timeline and refined budget. Contact: [email protected] or 503-567-1713.
