About This Call
Tulsa International Airport seeks artists to create suspended artwork installations for two identified locations within the terminal. The Airport Art and Culture Program aims to enhance the aesthetic experience of visitors and create a signature identity for the airport that reflects Tulsa's diverse and thriving community.
A budget of $250,000 has been designated for this installation, inclusive of all costs including artist fees, studio overhead, consultant fees, materials, fabrication, permits, site preparation, transportation, installation, construction of bases and lighting, general public liability insurance, workers compensation insurance, and contingency. The selected artist will be responsible for appropriate allocation of funds. Artwork should visually enhance the aesthetic experiences of visitors but is not limited to aviation-themed pieces. Artwork cannot be highly reflective due to security camera requirements. Concepts may include lighting as budget allows and may need revision based on airport security measures. Concepts should provide a unique experience and transform the installation spaces.
The airport will select up to five applicants and provide a $2,000 stipend for travel to Tulsa to present final concepts to the Selection Committee. Submissions must include a creative concept illustrated for the installation site. Required materials include resume (PDF, maximum three pages), three professional references (at least one client who commissioned an artwork installation within the last five years), portfolio (PDF), statement of interest (maximum 250 words), creative goals statement (maximum 250 words), and concept sketch (PDF, 8.5x11 inches). Entry deadline is June 2, 2023 at 5:00 PM CST. International artists are eligible.
