Tubac Center of the Arts: Border Celebrations

"Border Celebrations" is an exhibition that focuses on artists' investigations, experiences and interpretations of life in and around border towns. The exhibition welcomes work addressing not only the U.S./Mexico border but all international border life. Imagery and subject matter with perspective on celebrating life in border areas, cross cultural exchange, the physical beauty of the area, and historic and cultural iconography are encouraged. Through the creation of art, artists can share a positive view of border life while addressing current social and ideological impacts.

Submissions must be original work executed within the last 24 months and cannot have been previously shown at TCA. Up to four works may be entered for consideration, with a maximum of 2 works per artist selected. Giclee reproductions printed on canvas are not permitted. All artwork must arrive ready to hang; if framed, work must be suitably matted, simply framed and firmly wired. Work will be judged on creativity, technical expertise and content. Entry fee is $35 for the first image and $5 for each additional image (up to 4 entries total). TCA Members receive a discount with code BORDER at checkout. All work must be for sale; TCA retains a 40% commission.

Timeline: Notification of jury results on February 20, 2013. Shipped work due March 5-11, 2013; hand delivered work due March 11, 2013. Opening Reception on March 15, 2013. Pick up of unsold work on April 29, 2013. Awards: Best of Show $250, Award of Excellence $150, Award of Merit $100. Juror: David Tineo, award-winning artist, teacher and activist from Tucson, Arizona. Artists are responsible for delivery or shipping to and from TCA. Unsold work will be shipped back to the artist after the close of the exhibition; artists must provide a computer generated prepaid shipping label for return of their work.
