About This Call

Troy Main Street invites sculptors to submit proposals for the 2025 Sculptures on the Square event, the 12th biennial exhibition since 2003. The theme is "Sow & Grow," which artists are welcome to freely interpret. Up to 20 sculptures will be displayed on the sidewalks of downtown Troy from June 14 - October 5, 2025. The event regularly attracts thousands of visitors and includes displays of local artists in downtown businesses and interactive arts activities throughout the exhibition period.

Sculptures must not exceed 5 feet wide x 5 feet deep x 8 feet tall and will be displayed outdoors for the duration of the event. Sculptures can be free-standing or placed on pedestals. All artwork must be family- and community-friendly in design, nature, and content. Selected artists receive a $2,000 USD stipend per sculpture. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from Troy, insurance, and attendance at the Opening Gala, which can be deducted from the stipend if needed.

Proposals must include: artist name, contact information, and website; headshot and biography; resume or CV demonstrating a history of on-budget and on-schedule public art projects (or exhibited artwork for first-time public art applicants); a creation and installation schedule; and either photographs of existing work with installation details and history, or detailed conceptual drawings for new work showing size, scale, and installation methods. The selection committee will review submissions based on adherence to community- and family-friendly content, appropriate size, and adequate budget, schedule, and installation details meeting city requirements. This opportunity is open to resident American and legal resident artists and artist teams residing and working in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Apply via callforentry.org or email a completed application to [email protected] by November 15, 2024 at 7:00 PM Eastern Time.
