About This Call

Clay Art Center will host TRISTATE OF MIND, a regional juried exhibition from January 30 through March 19, 2016. Juried by gallerist and curator Leslie Ferrin, the exhibition will gather a contemporary cross-section of emerging artists within a 75 mile radius of Clay Art Center's facility in Port Chester, NY. The focus of this show is to visually represent the culture, trends, and theories surrounding clay practice in the region. The culminating exhibit will showcase a breadth of work ranging from academic, alternative, traditional, and post-industrial objects; functional, installation, and sculptural work will be represented.

Eligibility is limited to emerging artists who have been in the ceramics field professionally for less than 10 years. No applicant can have had a solo exhibition in an established gallery before the application deadline. Artists must either work or live within a 75 mile radius of Port Chester, NY. Artwork submitted must have been made in the last two years and be available for exhibition. Submitted artworks can be mixed media, but must be primarily ceramic. Applicants may submit up to 3 works with 2 views of each work (maximum of 6 images). The entry fee is $25.

One artist from the final exhibitors will be selected for a solo exhibition at Clay Art Center from July 30 – September 16, 2016. The winner will be chosen by a sub-committee including Glenn Adamson (Director of the MAD Museum), Jennifer Scanlan (Independent Curator), David McFadden (former Chief Curator at the MAD Museum), and Barry Harwood (Curator at the Brooklyn Museum). The winner will be announced at the opening reception on January 30, 2016. All artwork must be for sale with a gallery commission of 40% of selling price. Work must remain in the gallery until the show ends.
