About This Call
The Walter Rand Transportation Center (WRTC) is a transportation hub located at Martin Luther King Boulevard and Broadway in Camden, New Jersey, serving NJ TRANSIT Buses and the RiverLINE Light Rail. This call seeks submissions from three (3) artists or artist teams for visual artwork to be printed on vinyl banners and installed in designated spaces at the center. Artists may submit images of completed works or a brief description with supporting images describing a conceptual approach to temporary vinyl murals. Selected artists will provide digital files to NJ Transit for fabrication and installation.
Artists should submit 4-10 work samples (minimum 4 images, maximum 8 images; up to 2 videos), an artist statement discussing relevant experience and interest in the project, and optionally a brief narrative (no more than 2 pages) describing their vision for the artwork within the available sites. Accepted formats include drawing, graphics, mixed media, painting, and photography. The call will not consider moving images, films, animations, or performative work. Three installation locations are available: WRTC Bus Exterior Wall (24' x 11'), WRTC Bus Interior Red Band Wrap (24" x 6' sections), and WRTC Bus Interior Glazing (7' x 6' each window).
Eligibility requires artists to be at least 21 years old, legally able to complete a contract with NJ Transit, and current residents of New Jersey living in Camden County. Priority will be given to applicants with a strong connection to Camden. Selected artists will receive a $1,500 stipend. The jury committee will evaluate submissions based on artistic quality, appropriateness to site and project objectives, potential for positive community interaction, and artist availability for project coordination. Jury dates are April 14 - May 22, 2023.
