About This Call

New Jersey Transit and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts present the TRANSITional Art Project Atlantic City. This opportunity is open to visual artists age 18+ who live or work in the 8 southern NJ counties (Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean, or Salem) and are current residents of New Jersey. Preference will be given to artists with a connection to Atlantic City.

Artists are invited to submit proposals for temporary art projects in Atlantic City New Jersey Transit spaces, either the Rail Terminal or the Bus Depot. Proposals must be clear, concise, and considerate of the ridership and public nature of temporary art in transit spaces. The New Jersey Transit TRANSITional Art Selection Committee (TASC) will review each application and respond with approval, tentative approval with conditions, or denial. Only one proposal per artist may be submitted. Applications must be submitted by midnight on March 9th via www.callforentry.org (CAFÉ). No extensions will be granted.

Submissions must include a narrative of no more than two pages (10 point font or larger, 1.5 spaced) describing the proposed project, its scope, and desired outcomes. Include who, what, when, where, and how. A proposed budget inclusive of all known costs and required resources must accompany the submission. The TRANSITional Art Project will provide a $1,000 stipend per project for artist costs and fees. New Jersey Transit may provide additional equipment and in-kind services such as printing, marketing, projectors, speakers, podium, and microphone. Artists should refer to the "Approved Locations Plan" in CAFÉ for specifications about available locations and permitted art forms. Approved locations include banners, column wraps, vinyl applications, and murals.

Submissions must include three uploads: a narrative project proposal, a brief artist bio (no more than two paragraphs or approximately 250 words), and a basic project budget. Work samples should include no more than 4 samples of previous work and up to 2 examples of sketches, diagrams, or visual, video, or audio work. Selected artists will be notified in late April. TRANSITional Art projects will be installed beginning in early May 2020 and displayed through the end of July 2020. Artists will retain materials or artifacts from their work and are responsible for cleanup and removal within 24 hours after the exhibition end. Proposals will be evaluated based on artistic excellence, potential for positive experiences with NJ Transit riders and the local community, safety considerations, and feasibility.
