Transit Center Art

The City of Greeley is seeking an artist or artist team to design and create public artwork for the Transit Center. The project budget is $50,000 and includes artwork design, fabrication, delivery, and installation with all permits. Artwork will be installed on a brick wall in a wide open location exposed to extreme weather conditions, including temperatures ranging from 100+ degrees to freezing with rain, snow, and hail. All media that can be attached to brick and withstand Colorado's changing weather will be considered. Artwork may extend above, in front of, or be flush with the wall, or may be painted on the wall. Special consideration will be given to applicants whose work encompasses Greeley's historical transportation themes or includes an educational component.

Applicants must submit an Artist Application Packet including: a resume demonstrating previous experience working with project teams (architects, engineers, managers), experience manufacturing and installing past art designs appropriate for the Transit Center, and three references; a letter of intent describing the suggested design approach, materials, and knowledge of the Transit Center's physical setting; and up to 6 digital images of completed past work with an inventory sheet. Conceptual drawings will not be reviewed. Applications must be submitted by October 25, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.

One artist or artist team may be selected as a finalist, or up to 3 artists may be selected for a second round jury process. Artists shortlisted for the second round will receive a $300 honorarium to develop a design concept. The selected artist will work with a selection committee including Greeley Art Commission members, Transit & Culture staff, outside stakeholders, and possibly architects and engineers. The artist must attend a minimum of two meetings in Greeley and submit two progress reports. The final design must be original, include all fabrication and installation details, and be wet stamped by a structural engineer. Fabrication, delivery, and installation must be completed by spring or early summer of 2019. This is Phase I of a potentially multi-year project; Phase II & III RFQs may be posted in fall of 2019 and 2020.
