About This Call
The City of Frisco Public Art Program is issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ #1906-098) for the Traffic Signal Controller Box Wrap Project. The City seeks an artist to create six original artworks for display as wraps on traffic signal controller boxes along Main Street. The project budget is $6,500.00, all-inclusive for the design of six original artworks. The City will contract separately with a vendor to print and install the wraps from digital files submitted by the artist.
The six artworks should consist of original designs that have not appeared elsewhere and must cover all sides and tops of the controller boxes. Designs should be appreciated by both pedestrians and passing cars, with fine details that could distract motorists discouraged. The designs must not include imagery that could be interpreted as City of Frisco street signage or traffic signaling. Artists are encouraged to design the artworks as one cohesive experience spread over approximately two miles of roadway, with each artwork working well alone while being visually connected. The artworks will be installed for a 2-year period beginning on the installation date, with installation required by March 6, 2020. All artworks installed on boxes in close proximity to a business or property owned by anyone other than the City must be approved by that entity.
Applications must be submitted online via www.callforentry.org by 4:00 p.m. CST on Friday, July 12, 2019. Submissions must include a completed cover page, typed cover letter describing interest in the project, artist resume with current contact information, artist statement, three references with current contact information, and no more than 15 images of past work (with the first five being most relevant to this RFQ). The Artist Selection Committee will evaluate qualifications based on demonstrated excellence of past work, professional qualifications and relevant experience, stated interest and approach specific to the project, and ability to create artworks meeting project requirements. This opportunity is open to all artists. Questions should be submitted to Frisco Purchasing at [email protected] by 4 p.m. CST on Friday, June 28, 2019.
