About This Call
The City of Pompano Beach will wrap digital versions of artworks on traffic signal boxes located throughout the City. This is the third round of a project started in 2015. The goal is to add an attractive and creative touch along corridors by transforming traffic signal boxes into pieces of art. This beautification effort will enhance the experience of visitors and help prevent vandalizing of boxes. Site visits are encouraged but not required.
Artwork should be bright in color, bold, and readable from cars while containing some intimacy for pedestrians. No logos, words, political or religious references, or nudity are permitted. Artwork submitted must not be part of other tri-county Traffic Signal Box projects or similar projects. If selected, artwork must not be used in future tri-county Traffic Signal Box or similar projects while installed in the Pompano Beach project. The utility boxes are located at different arterials and neighborhoods throughout the City and vary in size, with many around 5'x2'x4' feet.
This call is open to all United States professional and amateur artists. Experience in vinyl wraps or public art is not necessary. Artists skilled in any medium—2-D, painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, animation, digital, etc.—are encouraged to apply. Designs must be unique and of the artist's own creation. Artists can submit up to five images, each a maximum 5MB JPG. If selected, the artist must provide the image with a minimum of 360 DPI. Selected artists will be required to grant the City one-time reproduction rights and may be required to place designs onto templates provided by the Vendor/City and work with them for final approval of placement. Payment is $200 for each design per traffic box. Artists who are immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Committee or program staff are not eligible.
