About This Call

The City of Pompano Beach will wrap digital versions of artworks on traffic signal boxes located throughout the City. Selected artists will receive $200 per box. The goal of the program is to add an attractive and creative touch along corridors by transforming traffic signal boxes into pieces of art. This is the second round of a project started in 2015. This beautification effort will enhance the experience of visitors and help prevent vandalizing of boxes.

Artwork must be a minimum resolution of 360 DPI. There is no overall theme; however, artwork should be bright in color, bold, readable from cars yet contain some intimacy for pedestrians. No logos or words are to be used in the design. This call is open to all United States professional and amateur artists. Experience in vinyl wraps or public art is not necessary. Artists skilled in any medium—2-D, painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, animation, digital, etc.—are encouraged to apply. Designs must be unique and of the artist's own accord. Artists will give the City reproduction rights to selected images. Submit up to ten (10) images with a minimum resolution of 360 DPI. The City may select multiple designs from each artist. Once selected, the artist is required to place design(s) onto templates provided by the Vendor/City and work with them for final approval of placement. Artists are not eligible if they are immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Committee or program staff.

The 45 utility boxes are located at different arterials and neighborhoods throughout the City. Metal utility boxes sit on the ground at intersections and vary in size, with many around 5'x2'x4' feet. The City will contract with a vinyl wrapping company to install the artwork. Site visits are encouraged but not required.
