About This Call
The City of Commerce City and the Commerce City Cultural Council seek to purchase digital artwork for ten traffic control cabinet wrappings throughout prominent roadways in Commerce City. The locations have been predetermined by monitoring high traffic intersections, with these boxes expected to be seen by 70,000 drivers daily at the following locations: Quebec & 58th, Quebec & 72nd, Hwy 2 & 72nd, Hwy 2 & Quebec, Hwy 2 & 88th, Tower Rd & 81st, Tower Rd & 83rd, Tower Rd & 88th, Tower Rd & 96th, and Tower Rd & 104th.
The art selection committee seeks inspirational artwork that is evocative of the natural history of the area, celebrates culture and Commerce City community and unity, evokes joy and delight, and has a pleasing and uplifting effect on commuters. Artwork should be appropriate for all ages to enjoy. Artists should be mindful of how 2D art translates to 3D space, including negative space, as artwork will wrap four panels.
Budget: $800 per selected artwork (10 artworks selected). The budget is inclusive of all costs associated with the public art project including printing and installation. The artist will work with the City to determine specifications, with printing and installation handled by a vendor of the City's choosing. Applicants must submit a maximum of five digital images of artwork with dimensions and an artist statement explaining their interest in Commerce City and how their work meets the criteria. Eligible applicants are artists who reside in Colorado or the Colorado Region (Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona).
