About This Call
The City of Coral Springs will wrap four traffic signal boxes located throughout the city with digital versions of artworks. The goal is to transform utility boxes into public art pieces that enhance the visitor experience and help prevent vandalism. The four locations are: University Drive & NW 28th Street, University Drive & Royal Palm Boulevard, University Drive & Ramblewood Drive, and University Drive & Atlantic Boulevard.
Artwork must be colorful but not bright, bold and readable from cars while containing some familiarity for pedestrians. Designs must relate to environmental aspects of Coral Springs and the City's logo "Everything Under the Sun," with themes relating to unity, kindness, and love. No logos, words, political or religious references are permitted. Selected artists will receive $200 per design per traffic box. The City will contract with a vinyl wrapping company to install the artwork.
This call is open to tri-county professional and amateur artists. Experience in vinyl wraps or public art is not necessary. Artists skilled in any digital visual arts medium including 2-D, painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, and animation are encouraged to apply. Artists are not eligible if they are immediate family or business partners of Public Art Committee members or program staff. Designs must be unique and of the artist's own creation. Artists can submit up to four images (maximum 5MB JPG each). If selected, artists must provide the final image with a minimum resolution of 360 DPI. Artwork submitted must not be part of other tri-county traffic signal box projects or similar projects. If selected, artwork cannot be used in future tri-county traffic signal box or similar projects while installed in the Coral Springs project. Selected artists will be required to grant the City one-time reproduction rights for any purpose in any media serving the City's interest. Final boxes will be photographed for the City's interactive Public Art map online.
