About This Call

The City of Coral Springs will wrap four traffic signal boxes located in the Downtown area with digital versions of artworks. The goal is to reduce blight along corridors by transforming utility boxes into art pieces. This beautification effort will enhance the experience of visitors and help prevent vandalism.

Artwork must be colorful but not bright, bold and readable from cars while containing intimacy for pedestrians. Designs must relate to environmental aspects of Coral Springs and the City's logo "Everything under the sun," with themes of unity, kindness, and love. No logos, words, political or religious references are permitted. Selected artists must provide designs with a minimum resolution of 360 DPI. The call is open to Florida professional and amateur artists in any digital visual arts medium including 2-D, painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, and animation. Experience in vinyl wraps or public art is not necessary. Artists who are immediate family or business partners of Public Art Committee members or program staff are not eligible.

Artists may submit up to four images as JPG files with a maximum of 5MB each. If selected, the artist must be able to provide the image at minimum 360 DPI or will be disqualified. Submitted artwork must not be part of other tri-county Traffic Signal Box projects or similar projects. The City will contract with a vinyl wrapping company for installation. Selected artists will receive $200 for each design per traffic box. Artists must grant the City one-time reproduction rights for display, publication, and promotion in any media serving the City's interest. The submission deadline is December 2, 2020, with artists selected by December 14, 2020.
