About This Call

Traditional Arts Indiana and Accelerate Rural Indiana are offering an 8-part workshop to train community scholars to research and share local cultural traditions. Participants will learn to identify and document folklife through fieldwork methods such as interviews, fieldnotes, photography, and video. The course introduces oral history and public folklore practices, emphasizing collaboration with communities. Participants will explore how to turn research into public projects—exhibitions, events, digital media, and archives—that celebrate community heritage. The course guides participants in creating small-scale projects like films, online exhibits, walking tours, or cultural festivals. By the end, scholars will know how to document traditions and design public programs that honor community voices.
