Town of Windsor Monumental Entryway Sculpture

The Town of Windsor Arts Commission is seeking an artist to design, fabricate, and install a monumental three-dimensional artwork at one vehicular entry to the Town of Windsor that will clearly mark the entrance into the Town and incorporate the word "Windsor" into the design. Windsor is a rapidly growing town that still maintains a deep connection to its historical roots as an agricultural hub, close-knit community, and cultural crossroads. The Town Board is interested in installing artworks at key entry points into the Town that will visually announce that one is entering the Town of Windsor. This call is seeking an artist who will design and install the first of these monumental signs in 2026. To ensure that future entryway monuments that are installed over the next three to five years are visually similar, the selected artist may be invited to complete future works for the Town.

The sculpture will be installed near the intersection of CO State Highway 257 and Poudre Trail Drive, along a major northbound entryway into Windsor from neighboring Greeley and Johnstown. The location is near a trailhead for the Poudre River Trail, a regional trail that will soon connect Fort Collins to Greeley, and the Windsor Archery Range, which sees thousands of users annually. The WAC is seeking an artist who will create a piece that adheres to the guiding principles of the Master Plan (engaging, inclusive, and relevant), creates a unique and vibrant landmark that contributes to Windsor's sense of place, and references aspects of Windsor's history and/or visual identity.

Any artist living and working in the continental United States is welcome to apply, with preference given to Colorado artists. Artists must have demonstrated success in completing public art works of similar scale, with preference given to those with experience working with municipalities. Initial applications should include an artist statement, resume/CV, 5-10 images of relevant works, and a narrative statement describing the proposed sculpture. Three to five finalists will be selected to present a full proposal and will be paid a stipend of $200. The project budget is $250,000 with an entry fee of $25.
