Town of Superior Winter Light Installation

The Superior Cultural Arts & Public Spaces (CAPS) Advisory Committee invites creative individuals or teams located in Colorado to submit an initial design concept for a light installation to be located in one of two parks: Grasso Park or Purple Park. This temporary winter light art installation will provide the community with a fun, family-friendly light experience during the long winter nights from approximately December 2021 through April 2022. The installation will be scheduled for late-November or mid-December 2021 and remain on display through March or April 2022.

This is a Request for Concepts requiring only a narrative; no design renderings are required at this time. Up to three artists or creative teams will be invited to design a proposal and offered a $400 design proposal fee. The implementation budget is $18,800. Concepts are due October 10. CAPS prefers the installation to be interactive and experiential, original and unique, demonstrating artistic excellence and quality, sensitive to the space and place, and highly vandal-resistant with weather-proof materials.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents and reside in Colorado. Application requirements include a brief letter of interest, a concept narrative of 500 words or less outlining the concept, potential materials, proposed location, interaction or immersion elements, technical details such as power and wifi requirements, and a cost estimate. Applicants must submit up to 8 digital images and up to 3 video clips of past design work relevant to this project, along with a work sample list describing the submitted images and videos. A CAPS subcommittee will review applications and select the top three applicants to develop full proposals by October 26. CAPS will review the top three proposals and make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees.
