Town of Superior: En Plein Air Painting Festival & Exhibit

Superior's Cultural Arts and Public Spaces Advisory Committee (CAPS) will select up to 15 artists to paint the beautiful scenery of Purple Park en plein air on Saturday, October 1, 2022 (with a rain date of October 8). After the event, each artist will loan their finished painting(s) for a 3-month exhibition at the Superior Community Center running from January through March 2023.

Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of $200 to participate in the plein air painting day and to lend their final artwork for exhibition. Selected artists may be paired with a youth aspiring artist for one hour during the event to mentor and coach them through the practice of painting en plein air. During the event, the public will be invited to stroll around the park to watch artists create their work, and a separate activity station will be available for youths and other participants who would like to try painting.

Applications must be submitted by August 7, 2022 at 11:59 PM MDT through CaFE. There is no charge to apply. Applicants must submit a brief letter of interest detailing experience with plein air painting and any experience mentoring youth, a minimum of 3 and up to 6 digital images of current or past artwork with a corresponding list describing each image (purchase price or value, dimensions, title, media), and a resume. Applicants must be 18 years of age or over, U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents, and reside in Colorado. Selected artists will be invited to participate by August 29. Delivery or shipment of artwork for the exhibition is the responsibility of the artist.
