Town of Miami Lakes Veterans Memorial Project

The Town of Miami Lakes seeks qualifications from professional artists to design an exterior sculpture for the new Miami Lakes Government Center that artistically enhances the existing architecture and pays homage to veterans from all five armed forces. The artwork should create an iconic landmark for the new facility and provide a visual focal point for visitors. It may incorporate paving design, dramatic lighting, and/or symbolism of military, municipal and State flags. The memorial will be placed in the main entrance plaza. Artists may also wish to consider a prominent interior wall located in the entrance lobby of Town Hall, where artwork should add visual character and artistically describe the functions of the Town Hall.

The project budget is $52,000, which must be inclusive of design, engineering, fabrication, installation, and any other costs associated with implementation. The location is NW 67th Avenue and Main Street, Miami Lakes. The project is open to experienced professional visual artists residing in Miami-Dade County. Town of Miami Lakes resident artists are encouraged to apply. Applications from architects, landscape architects or other design professionals will not be considered unless included as part of a professional artist-led team. Town of Miami Lakes employees, selection panelists, and panelists' immediate family members are excluded from participation.

A three-member group of arts professionals will identify finalists who will be paid a $500.00 honorarium to develop specific proposals prior to final selection. Primary criteria for finalist selection include previous artistic accomplishment as demonstrated in images of previously completed artwork, public art experience, and initial approach to the project. Submissions must be received as a complete application by November 2, 2012, midnight. There is no application fee.
