About This Call
The Town of Davie will wrap digital versions of artworks on traffic signal boxes located throughout the Town. The goal is to add an attractive and creative touch along corridors by transforming traffic signal boxes into pieces of art. This beautification effort will enhance the experience of visitors and help prevent vandalization of boxes. There are 18 locations total. Site visits are encouraged but not required. Artists are required to sign over one-time reproduction rights of their artwork.
Artwork must have a minimum resolution of 360 DPI and address one of the following themes: higher education, local recreation, or nature themed to the Town of Davie. Designs should be readable from cars yet contain some intimacy for pedestrians. No logos, numbers, or words are to be used in the design. The utility boxes are located at different arterials and neighborhoods throughout the Town. Metal utility boxes sit on the ground at intersections and vary in size, with many around 5'x2'x4' feet.
This call is open to professional and amateur artists living in Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties. Experience in vinyl wraps or public art is not necessary. Artists skilled in any medium—2-D, painting, drawing, photography, graphic design, animation, digital, etc.—are encouraged to apply. Designs must be unique and of the artist's own accord. Artists can submit up to five images with a minimum resolution of 360 DPI. The Town may select multiple designs from each artist. Once selected, the artist must place design(s) onto templates provided by the Vendor/Town and work with them for final approval of placement. Artists are not eligible if they are immediate family or business partners of members of the Public Art Advisory Committee or program staff. Selected artists will receive $200 for each design/traffic box.
