About This Call

The Town of Basalt, through the Basalt Public Arts Commission (BPAC), is accepting proposals for a two-year Art Consignment Agreement. There is no fee to enter a submission. Artists may submit up to 3 applications, with work samples consisting of 2-5 images and 0-3 videos (2-8 total samples minimum).

The designated sculpture locations are along Midland Avenue within downtown Basalt's business district. Basalt is a small town of approximately 4,000 residents located 20 miles northwest of Aspen and 21 miles southeast of Glenwood Springs, situated at the confluence of the Frying Pan and Roaring Fork Rivers. The Town has 10 available sites with heights varying from 1 to 15 feet and widths of 1 to 6 feet. Artwork will be installed on marble blocks affixed with iron plates and/or bolts. The selected artist will receive a $1,500 honorarium, with reasonable installation costs paid by the Town or negotiated with the artist. All costs associated with the sculpture are the artist's responsibility. Artists must provide an insurance certificate prior to installation and are responsible for transportation and assistance with installation.

Artwork must be appropriate for all ages, able to withstand Basalt's climate and weather, maintenance-free or require minimal maintenance, and crafted from touchable materials free of sharp surfaces or highly reflective finishes. The artwork will remain in place for two years unless an extension is agreed upon. If purchased while on display, the artwork shall remain on site for the duration of the agreement. Proposals must include a detailed representation with dimension measurements, materials description, complete budget breakdown with delivery and installation costs, and references or links to examples of work. Artists must be at least 18 years old. Local, regional, or Colorado-based artists will be given priority. Submissions are due by 5:00 pm on August 1, 2025, and may be submitted via email, Google Form, or mail.
