Town of Avon Roundabout #4 Public Art Design & Installation

The Town of Avon is seeking design proposals for a new signature art piece to be installed in Roundabout #4 on Avon Road. The selected art piece will be a permanent installation, budgeted for installation not later than June 2016. The Town is interested in an original, three-dimensional art piece to be installed within the interior of the roundabout, which has a radius of approximately 85 feet. The artwork should align with and promote the identity of Roundabout #4 as the entrance to Avon's Town Center and commercial core. Additional gateway elements, including way-finding and landscaping, may be considered at the East and West Benchmark Road entrances. The artwork should be distinctive while considering other roundabouts, features on Avon Road, Possibility Plaza, and design elements in nearby commercial properties.

The Town has budgeted up to $25,000 for design, review process, and public engagement costs. Construction and installation costs are budgeted not to exceed $250,000. Proposals must include a cover letter, project approach and schedule, qualifications of key personnel, visual support materials or portfolio (maximum 10 images), at least three references for similar projects completed in the past five years, identification of Town responsibilities, cost of design services as a fixed not-to-exceed amount, and a statement regarding conflicts of interest and litigation history.

A Selection Committee will review proposals and select two to three finalists to present to the Avon Town Council. Finalists will present two initial idea renderings or drawings with written descriptions of concept, materials, and scale. The inquiry deadline is June 24, 2015. Proposal presentations to Council and selection of the successful proposer are scheduled for August 25, 2015.
