About This Call
The Town of Castle Rock Public Art Commission seeks proposals for a sculptural art piece to enhance and beautify Town Hall Plaza, the Town's newest civic gathering space located in the heart of Downtown Castle Rock. The site is located at 100 N. Wilcox Street, Castle Rock, CO, 80104, with general dimensions of 22 feet by 15 feet on a concrete slab surface. The plaza will be highly utilized as a pedestrian walkway and public gathering area, providing connection to Town Hall and the adjacent Festival Park, which hosts tens of thousands of event attendees annually.
The proposed artwork must be an original, three-dimensional work distinctive in design, color, and subject matter, appropriate for public viewing of all ages. The ideal piece should be scaled to a minimum of 15 feet tall, with an ideal height of approximately 25 feet. The artwork must be durable, low-maintenance, pose no hazard to the public, require minimal conservation (optimally maintenance-free for up to 15 years), and meet safety standards and building codes. Artists should consider potential adverse site conditions including wind, sun, snow, extreme heat, freezing temperatures, and potential vandalism.
Submit the following items in PDF format via email to Maia Aman ([email protected]) by December 6, 2021 at midnight: Statement of Interest (250 words or less), Resume, Budget (including labor and detailed materials outline), and Detailed sketch/design of proposed artwork. Artists may submit up to five proposals, each as an independent submission. A selection committee will review proposals based on design within site context, originality and creativity, submittal completeness, and artist credentials. Up to three semi-finalists will receive a $500 stipend and be asked to present concepts in person. The Public Art Commission will recommend a selection to Town Council for final approval. Timeline: December 6, 2021 - submission deadline; February 2022 - notification of winning proposal; March 2022 - contract phase; April-August 2022 - installation.
