About This Call
LexArts Inc. in association with Town Branch Park seeks artists to create a public art installation on an exterior wall or free-standing structure adjacent to the performing arts facility. The artwork will serve as recognition of donors and contributors to the project, with names and acknowledgments incorporated into the piece in various ways representing different levels and types of contributions. Materials may include glass, wood, stone, or other materials suggested by artists. The organization will commission proposals from three experienced public artists with the expectation of realizing one proposal in spring 2025. There is no application fee.
The project budget is $100,000, inclusive of artist fees, travel, research, execution, insurance, taxes, site preparation, equipment rental, and materials. The selected site features a wall approximately 20 feet high by 40 feet long (approximately 800 square feet total). Three finalists will be selected to visit the site, meet with Town Branch Park staff and LexArts, and will each receive $1,000 upon delivery of a complete site-specific proposal including composition, concept statement, and budget/timeline. One artist or artist team will be selected to realize their proposal.
Eligibility: Artists must be 18 years or older and reside in Kentucky or contiguous states. Submissions must include a current resume (required), an optional one-page artist statement describing public art experience, and 6 digital images of past public artwork with descriptions of size, media, budget, year completed, and location. Timeline: Artist qualifications deadline April 15, 2024; artist notifications April 30, 2024; finalist proposals due June 15, 2024; artwork creation spring 2025. Selection criteria include artistic distinction, experience with large-scale public artwork, durability and low maintenance, and contextual integration into Town Branch Park.
