About This Call
Town and Country invites submissions from Texas-based artists, or those with a deep interest or background in Texas, who work within the expanded conceptual and material field of painting. Juried by Chad Dawkins, Curator and Director of Exhibitions at the Southwest School of Art, the exhibition is presented as part of "Is Texas Painting?": 2020 Texas Painting Symposium. The exhibition imposes no restriction on thematic content and does not limit the varied material forms that painting may take, including video and 3D work. The exhibition will be held in the HDJ Studio Gallery at LHUCA in Lubbock, TX, from April 2, 2020 – May 30, 2020.
Eligibility: Artists must be at least 18 years old, living in the United States, and working in all forms of contemporary painting (canvas, paper, sculpture, mixed media, installation, collage, drawing, and other extensions of traditional painting). Work must be made within the last 5 years. There is no size constraint. Entry fee is $35 for up to three entries. Submissions should include 1-3 images. Only plexiglass frames are acceptable on shipped works; hand-delivered pieces may be framed with glass.
Timeline: Entry deadline is March 6, 2020. Artists will be notified via email on March 12, 2020. Delivery deadline is March 26, 2020. Exhibition dates are April 2 – May 30, 2020, with opening receptions on April 2 (preview for Symposium attendees and juror's talk), April 3 (April First Friday Art Trail, 6-9 PM), and May 1 (May First Friday Art Trail, 6-9 PM). Return shipping begins the week of June 1, 2020. Cash prizes: 1st place $400, 2nd place $200, 3rd place $100, and two Honorable Mentions of $50 each. Contact Linda Cullum, LHUCA Curator, at [email protected] or 806-762-8606.
