About This Call

Beacon Gallery invites artists to submit work for the 2020 International Juried Show themed around "Totems"—natural objects or animals believed to have spiritual significance, or items representing a symbol of a quality or concept. Artwork may be in any medium. Artists are encouraged to explain their works in short paragraphs so the jury can adequately appreciate their importance or symbolic nature.

Eligibility is open to all artists 18 years and older. The $35 entry fee allows submission of up to 5 pieces of original 2D or 3D artwork. Work must be framed and/or ready to hang (wired or d-rings) or otherwise display. Video artwork may be submitted. Only one image per artwork is required. The gallery may accept any number from zero to all 5 pieces for the show. Ceiling height in the gallery is maximum 99 inches, with a suggested maximum height of 95 inches. Artists are responsible for shipping costs to and from the gallery and any display needs such as pedestals unless otherwise arranged with the gallery. The gallery is not responsible for works damaged in transit or from poor framing.

The exhibition runs February 7 - March 15, 2020, with an opening reception on February 7. Total prizes of $1,700 will be awarded: $100 for 3rd place, $200 for 2nd place, and $300 for 1st place in both 2D/Digital and 3D/Sculptural categories, plus $500 for Best in Show. For accepted work, the artist-gallery split is 50%-50%. Work may be submitted as NFS but requires a price for insurance purposes. Jurors include Lydia Gordon (associate curator for exhibitions and research at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA), YoAhn Han (Korean painter based in Boston), and Christine O'Donnell (Owner and Gallery Manager of Beacon Gallery).
