About This Call
The Visiting Artist Program is a professional development opportunity for emerging and experienced visual artists, intended to expose visitors to a new group of artists and projects. Applicants may apply for a 1, 2, or 3-month summer residency from July through September. Projects undertaken by Visiting Artists are self-directed. Visiting Artists will have the opportunity for informal exchanges with other Torpedo Factory artists and are encouraged to visit others' studios as well as invite other artists to visit theirs. Each Visiting Artist is asked to give a 30-minute slide presentation elaborating on their process and history.
Visiting Artists will be able to display and sell their original artwork and will be provided with workspace. Studios range in size from intimate to spacious, each with its own character. Some studios have running water and ventilation, and some have views of the Potomac River. The organization will do its best to match each accepted Visiting Artist with a studio appropriate to that artist's needs. Each Visiting Artist will pay one-half of the studio rent, with amounts ranging between approximately $180 and $480 per month depending on studio size. All expenses and arrangements related to art materials, equipment, transportation, housing, or other requirements are the responsibility of the Visiting Artist. The Torpedo Factory Art Center has very limited communal facilities.
Applicants may submit 5-8 images of their work. The entry fee is $60.00, and applicants are allowed to submit up to 3 applications. International artists are eligible.
