Torpedo Factory Artist Association: Visiting Artist Program 2016

The Torpedo Factory Art Center is one of the largest visual art centers in the U.S., home to more than 140 visual artists working in 82 studios. Artists create in a wide variety of media including painting, fiber, jewelry, ceramics, printmaking, cast and stained glass, photography, and sculpture. The facility is open to the public from 10-6 every day except Thursdays, when it stays open until 9 pm. Visitors are invited into artists' studios to enjoy the art, watch artists at work, and purchase original artwork.

The Visiting Artist Program is a professional development opportunity for emerging and experienced visual artists. Applicants may apply for a 1, 2, 3, or 4-month summer residency from June through September. Projects undertaken by Visiting Artists are self-directed and must be compatible with available working studio spaces and facilities. Visiting Artists will have the opportunity for informal exchanges with other Torpedo Factory artists and are asked to give a demonstration elaborating on their process. Visiting Artists will be able to display and sell their original artwork and will be provided with workspace.

Each Visiting Artist will pay one-half of the studio rent, with amounts ranging between approximately $180 and $480 per month depending on studio size. All expenses and arrangements related to art materials, equipment, transportation, housing, or other requirements are the responsibility of the Visiting Artist. The Torpedo Factory Art Center has very limited communal facilities. Entry fee is $50.00. Applicants may submit 8-12 images and up to 3 videos (8-15 total samples). Up to 3 applications are allowed per applicant. International artists are eligible.
