Torpedo Factory Artist Association Annual Membership 2018

The Torpedo Factory Artists' Association (TFAA) is a professional membership community of more than 275 professional artists from all over the world. The TFAA is based at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA, just outside Washington DC. Successfully juried artists gain the opportunity to participate in exhibition and sales opportunities at all TFAA projects and sites and sublease/join Torpedo Factory Art Center studios. Member benefits include networking and professional development opportunities, marketing and publicity including listing on the Torpedo Factory website and co-op advertising, connections to shows and awards, immediate eligibility for membership and exhibition opportunities in TAG (a no-commission Torpedo Factory Art Center gallery), and community outreach projects and events.

All artists working in fine arts and fine crafts are eligible, including paintings, photography, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, jewelry, sculpture, glass, film, video, and more. The application fee is $75. Candidates must go through an annual jury process and attend an orientation session to become a member. Both phases of jurying are blind, meaning jurors will not see candidate names or identifying information and will judge work alone. Do not include information about educational experience, residencies, awards, professional qualifications, or personal information in your application.

Phase I requires submission of 5 to 8 images of original finished 2D or 3D artwork created in the last two years (film/video/animation artists must submit 5 to 8 clips). Successful candidates will be notified and required to bring 5 original works of art or video to the Torpedo Factory Art Center on March 12, 2018 and pick up the work on March 15, 2018. Phase II includes separate panels of jurors for different types of work. In addition to the 5-8 images submitted in Phase I, applicants must provide images or clips of at least 12 additional works on a USB drive, with two-thirds of this work completed in the last 2 years.
