About This Call
The City of Prineville, Oregon is seeking an original, large-scale, interpretive public artwork for a permanent installation in the roundabout at the intersection of OR Highway 126 and Tom McCall Drive in Prineville, Oregon. The project is fully funded at approximately $125,000, including all project costs such as artist's fees, permitting fees, stamped engineering drawings, and transportation and installation of art. The artist will be responsible for all costs associated with design, engineering, and fabrication of the foundation required for installation.
The Tom McCall Roundabout is the second largest single-lane design to accommodate highway caliber traffic in Oregon, situated at the west entrance to Prineville in Crook County. The artwork will serve as a visual gateway to the city and surrounding Ochoco National Forest, Crooked River National Grassland, and Public Lands, celebrating the history and character of the community. The installation will provide a "Welcome" feature to visitors while serving as a visual focal point that results in lower traffic speeds and aesthetic enhancement for the community.
Eligible applicants are resident American or legal resident artists/artist teams living in Oregon, Washington, or Idaho. Submissions must include: a site-specific concept drawing or rendering with anticipated dimensions, materials, installation, lifespan, and content; a letter of intent (maximum two pages) addressing project needs and artist qualifications; 3-6 digital images of previously completed works with annotated image lists; and current CV(s), artist statement(s), or resume(s) (maximum three pages) demonstrating relevant work experience, particularly in public art or privately funded commissions. All materials must be submitted digitally by March 5, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MST via CaFÉ. Up to three finalists will be notified in writing and required to create a scale model (maquette) at a ratio of 1-inch to 1-foot. Artwork must comply with public safety and highway operations requirements, use durable materials, and cannot include moving elements, water, text, commercial messages, or representations of specific individuals.
