About This Call

The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo's Art in Public Places Program, in partnership with the Lucas County Commissioner's office, is commissioning new public art for the Glass City Convention Center renovation. A Design Review Board will select three artists to design public art installations for strategic areas of the building. Artists working in 2D and 3D media are encouraged to apply, with preference given to those demonstrating experience integrating work into architectural settings.

Three sites have been selected with the following budgets: Ball Room ($130,000), Superior Street Façade ($190,000), and Monroe Street Concourse ($55,000). Budgets cover all project expenses including design fees, engineering, materials, fabrication, documentation, transportation, installation, and travel. The project is open to all U.S. artists age 18 and over, including artist teams from multiple disciplines.

Applicants must submit a one-page letter of interest, current resume(s), five digital images of recent professional work, an annotated image list with title, date, medium, size, location, and commission budget information, and at least three professional references with complete contact information. The deadline for submissions is July 26, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Up to three finalists per site will be selected and asked to develop conceptual proposals. Finalists will receive $2,000 compensation for their participation in the proposal stage. For more information, contact Nathan Mattimoe, Director of Art in Public Places, at 419-254-2787 ext. 1011.
