About This Call

The City of Lewisville, Texas is seeking a unique, monument-sized public art installation for the exterior of the new Tittle McFadden Public Safety Center. The artwork will be placed outside the front entrance at the northeast corner of Main Street and Valley Parkway (approximately 1101 W. Main Street). The selection panel is looking for a visually striking, contemporary-style piece that can be seen from the nearby intersection and complements the scale and architecture of the building. The theme does not need to be directly connected to public safety functions, Lewisville history, or Texas history.

The artwork must be fabricated from high-durability, low-maintenance materials proven to withstand Texas weather extremes, including ice storms, hail, high winds, and temperatures up to 100 degrees. Materials may include metal, stone, glass, or other durable materials. A concrete pad will be provided near the front entrance adjacent to a walkway. The incorporation of lighted elements is desired but not required. The budget for this commission is up to $320,000 USD, inclusive of all costs including design fees, consultation, insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, site modifications, travel, and documentation.

Artists may apply individually or as collaborative groups. This is a national and international call open to any artist regardless of background or experience level, though experience creating large-scale monument-sized artworks is preferred. Emerging artists are welcome. Up to 3 finalists will be selected for online presentations to the selection team in early November 2023, with one artist or group selected to complete the project. Building completion is projected for the first quarter of 2025, and the artwork is expected to be unveiled when the building opens to the public. The selected artist must coordinate with the building architect and construction team, participate in site visits and planning meetings, and gather input from facility users through a survey.
