About This Call

The Tipton Park Public Art Project has a budget of $113,000, with a mandatory 20% contingency fee ($22,600) held for unforeseen costs. The entire budget amount is available for use with written request from the artist(s) for release of contingency fee.

Artwork must welcome visitors to the park and be informed by the history of the neighborhood, a diverse area with a dense Black and Latinx population and a history of tight-knit community of 2nd and 3rd generation immigrant families where legacy is very important to the community. Artwork must require little or no maintenance as appropriate for outdoor pieces and be free of safety hazards.

The Artist Selection panel will review qualified submissions and identify a short list of up to two artists or artist-teams to develop a site-specific concept design. Each selected artist will receive a $1,500 stipend to cover costs of producing a site-specific public art concept proposal. Short-listed artists must prepare a concept design proposal comprised of drawings, digital renderings, or moquette, with a draft budget demonstrating that all phases of the artwork can be completed within budget, including design development, final design, fabrication, foundation, installation, and completion. An estimated maintenance plan and costs is required. The stipend must cover all costs of site visits, meetings with community members, site research, production of concept, shipping of moquette (where applicable), and travel to present the proposal to the selection panel.

Submission materials required: current professional resume, 5 images of previous projects with similar budgets (with title, date, location, materials, dimensions, budget, and commissioning entity), letter of interest, and three professional references. All professional artists with a demonstrated record of successful completion of artwork at similar cost and scale are eligible, except artists currently under contract with the City of Dallas Public Art Program, City of Dallas employees and their spouses, members of the Public Art Committee, consultants under contract for any phase of the projects, undergraduate students, and minors. Dallas artists are strongly encouraged to apply.
