About This Call
T.I.M.E Los Alamos is a public art project open to New Mexico residents aged 18 years and older. Artists in all stages of their careers are encouraged to apply. Up to five artists or artist teams will be selected to create temporary installations in exterior locations in and around Los Alamos, including Ashley Pond, Los Alamos Nature Center, White Rock Visitor Center, local parks, museums, government buildings, and other sites.
Selected artists will receive $2,000 per project, paid in two phases: $1,000 upon contract approval and $1,000 after installation and documentation. This amount covers all expenses including materials, labor, insurance, taxes, installation, and artwork retrieval. Artists are responsible for providing their own medical and workers' compensation insurance. The strongest proposals will engage the temporary nature of installations and relate strongly to the cultural and environmental histories of the area. Site-specific and ephemeral works are encouraged. Artwork must be low maintenance, safe for children and adults, ADA compliant, and not leave permanent marks on the environment. No artwork requiring concrete pads or environmentally damaging approaches will be considered. Artists must return installation sites to original condition and secure artwork against high winds and intense weather. New Mexico Arts, Los Alamos County, and participating sites are not responsible for damage, vandalism, or theft.
Submissions must include a detailed artwork description with dimensions, materials, installation, lifespan, interactivity, and content; one to four proposed artwork images; CV or resume; six images of previously completed work; an annotated image list; and a cleanup plan. The project theme is "Aha!" which conveys a sense of wonder, discovery, or eureka moment. Artists are asked to respond through a sense of place within the natural environment, arts, history, and culture of the area. Artwork installation deadline is June 30, 2019, with official opening July 10-14, 2019 during Los Alamos ScienceFest. Artwork removal is scheduled for August 31, 2019.
